S.C.U.M – S.C.U.M EP

A few months ago I did the write up for Sheffield Grime featuring 3 new videos, one of which was for Phase 2 (below) Since then a few members of the collective have featured on Logan Sama’s After Hour’s where they promoted the forthcoming release of the EP and fully pushed that Sheffield sound!

The EP kicks off with “Phase 2″ which features some of Sheffields best artists, also produced by J.G it is a perfect example of what Sheffield Grime is all about! With support from several DJ’s across the board including 1xtra’s DJ Q. It was the perfect track to warm up for the release and im glad to see the EP has now dropped to keep up the momentum!

Second up on the EP is “Strikers” also produced by J.G, alot skippier than “Phase 2″ this features 3 MC’s from the collective, Tez Kidd followed by K Dot and finally RawKid! The beat was originally produced for younger MCs to enter Logan Sama’s Generation Next but I think these 3 did the beat justice aswell!

Although the EP is focused mainly on Grime I was very pleased to see a TS7 production sneak onto the tracklist. “Summertime” uses TS7′s “Head Of State” instrumental to devastating effect featuring Tez Kidd & K Dot. As a whole I love this track it’s got something which I feel has been missed on occasion with Bassline recently. Not only does it have both artists spitting over the beat but it also has that singalong aspect to it with the hook & chorus of “Summertime” which will really help it appeal to a wide crowd & hopefully get it heard in the clubs during the summer!

My other favourite track from the EP which a few of you may of seen me mention on twitter was “Off Da Edge” it features some of my favourite bars from K Dot so far which have been heard on various freestyles and the beat is just disgusting!

Make sure you buy the EP from iTunes so you can make your own mind up!

DJ Q – Dibby Dibby Sound EP [Girls Music]

DJ Q – Dibby Dibby Sound EP [Girls Music]

2012 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for DJ Q. Although he’s always been at the front of the Bassline scene he is making this alot more evident with his recent work. His new EP Dibby Dibby Sound released on Toddla T‘s Girls Music is another great example. His first EP on the label entitled “Rinse Out” was a great success and one of the tracks was even championed by David Rodigan at Outlook Festival this year (although you’ve probably heard me bang on about it ever since September last year) here is a link.

After also recently working together on a remix of B Trait’s “Fever” they are back with the Dibby Dibby Sound EP, a heavy hitting 2 track Bassline instrumental EP with carefully chosen vocal samples.

Dibby Dibby Sound with its reggae influenced intro manages to incorporate almost all of DJ Q’s signature basses, quickly changing from one to another constantly keeping those ravers their toes! The track was first featured on his Enters the Unknown Mix CD and has been in great demand ever since.

Swing on the other hand, I hadn’t heard until the showreel went up on Soundcloud moments ago. I should imagine those lucky enough to of seen Q DJ recently will of had a glimpse of what was to come on the Girls Music label. A much slower paced intro which builds atmosphere as it progresses this time drops into a completely different style of Bassline which shows another side to DJ Q’s production very similar to what he offered in his free “Sound Of Violence EP
