Barcode ft Dominic Lord (DJ Q Remix)

Blogs been going through a quiet patch, partly due too my busy work/college schedule & partly due to not much music being made. Iv been resisting posting for the sake of it as i’ve always tried to post quality not quantity. So obviously when this wicked official remix popped up from DJ Q it gave me the perfect reason to post! Out on March 12 as part of a remix package on label OWSLA!

J69 – Evil Ep (SE016) – Released January 14th

J69 – Evil Ep (SE016) - Released January 14th

J69 teams up with Soukouch Ethnik a label I was unfamiliar with until recently to release his Evil EP…the clues in the title!

The EP consists of two original tracks from the man himself aswell as a remix from Laney which helps to switch up the style. The irregular bass patterns after a quite frankly evil build up does exactly what it says on the tin for the opening track funnily enough entitled evil.
“You” on the other hand has such a simple vocal sample, but when paired with some clever key work & that devilish wind before the drop, it turns it into something completely different helping to continue the theme thats set throughout the whole EP.
Im always a bit cautious of remixes that are based around such a simple vocal sample but Laney took this in the right direction by fiddling with the sample and switching up the style with a much more electronic feel compared to the raw bass featured in the opening tracks.
Overall a very solid EP from the ever J69 improving who we have been following since the blog opened!

1. J69 – Evil
2. J69 – You
3 .J69 – You (Laney Remix)
4. J69 – Void

Also J69 & Soukouch Ethnik released the bonus track Void over the festive perioud which can be downloaded here as an extra to the EP

Available January 14 at Beatport, Juno, Itunes & more

DJ Q ft Louise Williams – Trust Again (LOC011) – Released End Of January

Local Action’s first single of 2013 comes from DJ Q. It’s Q’s second release on the label, following the vinyl-only, swiftly sold-out ‘Brandy & Coke’, and marks the first taste of his forthcoming debut album.

Q’s been a legend to those in the know for almost a decade: his 2008 single ‘U Wot’ was one of the biggest tracks to ever come out of the UK’s bassline house / Niche explosion, and his BBC Radio 1xtra show was a must-listen for dance music fans worldwide. His recent productions and remixes (on Local Action, Unknown to the Unknown, Butterz and more) showcase a producer at the top of his game, able to turn his hands to grime, garage, pop and beyond, and ‘Trust Again’, a collaboration with Brit School alumnus Louise Williams is vocal 2-step made to perfection.

‘Trust Again’ features the first vinyl remix in several years by Karl ‘Tuff Enuff’ Brown, one half of the legendary UK garage unit Tuff Jam, as well as a 4×4 remix by Q and a shredding bassline mix by regular collaborator TS7. Audio of those will be uploaded closer to the release date.

A2 – Trust Again (4×4 mix)

Swifta Beater – Crazy EP

Swifta Beater – Crazy EP

01 I’m Crazy
02 Fire
03 Bad Behaviour ft Kai Ryder
04 Killer
05 You Can Be (Co-produced by Preditah)
06 Oh Yeah
07 Swagga ft Dapz OTM
08 Close ft Miss Fire

“Swifta Beater’s grime and hip-hop instrumentals continue to be spun on sets, radio and clubs across the world and following recent collaborations with Roll Deep (No Palava, Bumbo Ole), Macca (In My Zone, Day In The Office) and Big Narstie (Pain Gang).

Now the 22-year-old Birmingham producer shares with the world another side of his musical production ability in the form of the Bassline driven ‘Crazy EP’.

Going to try and keep this too the point as I have alot to say about this long awaited EP from Swifta Beater! Iv always been aware of his work within the Bassline scene but one of the tracks on the EP entitled Fire, was his first beat that really made me think wow! Using simple samples too a devistating effect, paired with basses that none of us had heard used in Bassline before helped to propel himself forward and the demand for his beats has been evident ever since!

The next track is with fellow Stayfresh grime producer Preditah, the two together along with Miss Kai Ryder created one of my favourite tracks of 2011. “You Can Be” has a melodic introduction with Miss Kai Ryder bringing back what I honestly believe Bassline had been missing for a while bar a few producers. Whats great about this collaboration is that you can hear what each producer brought to the track and after loving it from the first time I heard it I hope to hear these two pair up within the very near future.

Whats great about this EP is that even though producers have found success within other genres of music which is a great thing as I believe it improves their techniques anyway is that they are not ashamed to still show their Crazy side which is what Swifta has certainly done with this EP and I hope it is recieved well not only by his Bassline fans but too a much wider audience!

Fazer – Killer Remix EP – Released 26th August

Fazer – Killer Remix EP – Released 26th August

With N-Dubz splitting as a group and each launching their own solo career Fazer is set to release his first single entitled “Killer.” Its been a while since we’ve heard Fazer but he has been busy behind the scenes and was actually behind Tulisa’s debut single “Young” which had a particularly good remix by Preditah!

“Killer” also has a few remixes lined up by Woz, Rudedog, MNEK & also the duo Agent X…and yes its Bassline!

Although its been a while since we’ve heard Bassline from these two they have certainly been busy working with a whole host of artists on different projects. In 2010 they produced Skepta’s Badboy, a year later they also worked on several tracks with Roll Deep and they were also behind the feature track on Cheryl Cole’s latest album so to say they are well rounded producers would be an understatement.

With their remix of Killer they have brought back that proffesional, well sounding Bassline that we now only hear from a few producers and its been missed within the scene. Hopefully this won’t be the last Bassline production we hear from them for awhile so make sure you back the release to show its what we want to hear from them!

1 Killer
2 Killer (Agent X “Gassed” Mix)
3 Killer (Woz Remix)
4 Killer (MNEK’s Hide the Evidence Remix)
5 Killer (Rudedog Remix)

Project Bassline – Whipper Snapper EP  - Forthcoming April 2nd

Project Bassline release a brand new 5 track Bassline EP which im very excited about. Like many of the releases recently this was first brought to my attention by DJ Q on his UKG Show on BBC 1xtra. He dropped the first track “Resistance” a few weeks back and it instantly grabbed my attention, annoyingly I couldnt find the name of the track until the tracklist was posted the day after. After a little research I was delighted to see not only Resistance was planned for release but also another 4 tracks along side it!

Short clips of the other tracks featured can be heard on their Soundcloud and they all sound very promising to say the least. Alot of the recent tracks posted have taken Bassline back to its original roots and the response seems to be great so I have no doubt in my mind that these 5 tracks will recieve just as much love!

Project Bassline – Resistance
Project Bassline – Funk Off
Project Bassline – Fly High
