DJ Q Joins Ministry Of Sound Radio

DJ Q Joins Ministry Of Sound Radio

I’m sure I’m not the only person who feels the airwaves haven’t quite been the same since DJ Q left 1xtra back in August…

Well good news, DJ Q has managed to secure a monthly “Essential Garage Show” on Ministry Of Sound Radio!

Hub Entertainment

“UK Garage icon DJ Q is to begin hosting a monthly show on Ministry of Sound Radio.

Starting on 28 January 2013 at 9pm, the Huddersfield producer will present the station’s Essential Garage show, playing the best in new 2-step, 4×4 and bassline music. With his years of experience on the DJ and radio circuit, expect Q to demonstrate on the show exactly why he is both a well-respected tastemaker and popular garage artist in his own right.

The new radio role begins five months after Q ended a seven-year stint at BBC Radio 1Xtra, where he presented the three-hour weekly UKG M1X show, and so as one of the leading names in dance music, Ministry of Sound’s addition of DJ Q to their schedule is without question a perfect fit.

DJ Q speaks on the news:
“I’m excited about working with such a legendary name in dance music not just in the UK but Worldwide. It feels great to be back on the airwaves.

“If you’ve heard a DJ Q club set then you’ll know exactly what to expect. A mash-up of beats ranging from UK Garage, Grime, House and much, much more! Club music at itss best!”

The news continues a busy start to the year for Q, who will also release his single ‘Trust Again’ featuring Louise Williams this month through Local Action Records.

The Hub Entertainment manages DJ Q.”

Elijah & Skilliam + TS7 Guest Mix 2nd December

Click the logo to download the podcast or click here to stream it online.

Whenever Im on the bus or train to college/work…which seems to be all the time, what better way too zone out then a Rinse FM podcast. Its all I practically download and its usually one of the Butterz shows whether its Elijah & Skilliam, Royal T or Swindle. I suggest you download any of these 3 podcasts as the variety of music spread over two hours always helps on these winter mornings.

On the 2nd of December TS7 and Tom fro Coyote dropped by the Rinse FM studio to promote Grade A and TS7 dropped a wicked guest mix after the first hour. It included some of his new house like Polygon which everyone is anticipating to be vocalled, aswell as some of his new official garage remixes. Snuck inbetween all of this was the odd dark bassline track which worked really well. Give it a listen and hopefully you will enjoy the whole podcast!

While were on the subject of TS7 check out this track he did with man of the moment C4 on his Oorite Mix CD 2 below.

DJ Q – Dibby Dibby Sound EP [Girls Music]

DJ Q – Dibby Dibby Sound EP [Girls Music]

2012 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for DJ Q. Although he’s always been at the front of the Bassline scene he is making this alot more evident with his recent work. His new EP Dibby Dibby Sound released on Toddla T‘s Girls Music is another great example. His first EP on the label entitled “Rinse Out” was a great success and one of the tracks was even championed by David Rodigan at Outlook Festival this year (although you’ve probably heard me bang on about it ever since September last year) here is a link.

After also recently working together on a remix of B Trait’s “Fever” they are back with the Dibby Dibby Sound EP, a heavy hitting 2 track Bassline instrumental EP with carefully chosen vocal samples.

Dibby Dibby Sound with its reggae influenced intro manages to incorporate almost all of DJ Q’s signature basses, quickly changing from one to another constantly keeping those ravers their toes! The track was first featured on his Enters the Unknown Mix CD and has been in great demand ever since.

Swing on the other hand, I hadn’t heard until the showreel went up on Soundcloud moments ago. I should imagine those lucky enough to of seen Q DJ recently will of had a glimpse of what was to come on the Girls Music label. A much slower paced intro which builds atmosphere as it progresses this time drops into a completely different style of Bassline which shows another side to DJ Q’s production very similar to what he offered in his free “Sound Of Violence EP

DJ Q – Sound Of Violence EP

You may of recently seen me mention that we are quickly reaching the date of the blogs 1st Birthday! One of the first producers to fully get behind the blog and support the project was DJ Q. During the opening months he hit 3,000 followers on twitter & agreed to release his new remix of Wookie & Sia’s “Littleman” via the blog to not only promote himself but also the website. We’re now a year down the line and with DJ Q’s name in the spotlight more than ever with countless releases so early on in 2012 and many more planned its no suprise hes already hit the 7000 mark!

Now that he has passed the 7,000 mark we are lucky enough to recieve not one track but two! This time its Cassius’s “Sound Of Violence Vocal” not something you would initially expect to work, but DJ Q has pulled it off perfectly. On the EP you not only get the 4×4 remix but also the 2-step version aswell & best of all it’s free!

Follow him on twitter/soundcloud/tumblr too keep up with his latest news. With a new EP around the corner on Toddla T’s label “Girls Music” which will feature Dibby Dibby Sound and exciting remixes with UK artists from all sides of the UK, so far 2012 is looking to be DJ Q’s best year yet!

TS7 Trio!

TS7 Trio!

After releasing Jam Volume 4, easily the standout bassline release for me in 2011, TS7 has been hard at work in the studio and uploaded 3 new clips to his Soundcloud this week.

Clip number 1 is of “Nothing To Show” which was first played by DJ Q on BBC 1xtra a few weeks back. The clip has a very atmospheric beginning with clever vocal chops from an unnamed male artist. It then drops into an upbeat organ/garage beat with the vocal chops continued throughout. What I find great about this track is that although it’s very up lifting you can still pick out those dark ts7 basses that you find in many of his 4×4 productions  – Due to its multiple influences “Nothing to show” has had a great response from his fans and it looks like a release could be on the cards!

Baring in mind I was also listening to these clips in the order they were uploaded on Monday, “Real Love” was the second to appear just as quick as the first. Real Love, yet again has a very smooth introduction with relaxing melodies complimented by female vocal chops. The bass in “Real Love” has an old school garage feel to it which you may not have expected as much from TS7, yet as the track continues and he begins to put his own twist on the garage feel, it becomes more apparent that TS7 is behind this smash of a track!

At times you may forget that this is infact a Bassline blog but “On My Own” quickly reminds you of the reason you are here! TS7 admittedly said himself that he went for a 2007 feel for “On My Own.” Now most producers who announce they have tried to bring back an older feel to Bassline have sounded very different, not only to 2007 but also to themselves. TS7 has not only managed to bring back that 2007 feel but at the same time it sounds upto date and relevant. While writing this im glad to see that its been the best recieved track out of the 3 clips which proves there is still a demand for bassline – 700 plays in a week isnt bad going! It also looks like this could be released at some time within the near future so keep your eyes pealed.
