DJ Mag Weekly Podcast – DJ Q
After featuring in the Independant Blog, BBC 1xtra’s DJ Q is back with a new podcast for DJ Mag! Following on from his views on the UK Music scene as a whole he now puts those wise words into a musical form.
This quote was taken from the article in the Independant “The term UK bass is great,” Q says, “It just means now no one is really watching subgenres as such – people are just feeling the vibes. He relates this to the eclectic nature of his DJ sets. “I’m able to play different stuff all in one set and people love it,” he says, “I can play a bassline track next to a house track and then mix in a grime track and that’s how it should be.”
When you see the tracklist for the podcast you will see exactly what I mean, he kicks off the mix with one of his own bassline productions “All Junglist” then goes straight into a dubstep remix by Joker of Get Out My Head before quickly bringing in some Todd Edwards. He manages to keep this going throughout the mix which keeps you on your toes as compared to a one genre mix where you know what to expect! I also find mixes like these very useful as I find songs I’ve never heard before from genres like house which I perhaps dont pay as much attention too as I should. “Nick Hannam – Love You Girl” being the perfect example.
